During a meeting held on December 12, 2025, the Lawrenceburg Rotary Club had the pleasure of hosting MacKenzie Coleman, who holds the title of 2025 Fairest of the Fair for the Middle Tennessee District Fair (MTDF). Coleman is set to represent the MTDF in the upcoming statewide competition at the Tennessee Association of Fairs State Pageant, which will take place in Murfreesboro.
In her address, Coleman elaborated on her humanitarian initiative titled “It’s OK to Not be OK.” This important platform is dedicated to tackling the pressing issues of child and teenage suicide while promoting mental health awareness among the youth in the region. She emphasized the need for increased awareness, the reduction of stigma surrounding mental health, and the provision of practical resources to assist young individuals in navigating emotional difficulties.
Coleman has set an ambitious fundraising target of $2,500 for her project, with a portion of the funds—specifically $500—earmarked for a donation to the Jason Foundation. This organization is well-known for its commitment to youth suicide prevention and raising awareness about mental health issues.
A significant aspect of Coleman’s initiative involves the production of an educational video tailored for young audiences. This video will address various challenges faced by children and teenagers, including mental health issues, self-esteem, and the importance of seeking help when necessary. Additionally, Coleman is working on assembling and distributing “care bags” that will include a journal, a Bible, and other inspirational items suitable for young people. Each middle and high school in Lawrence and Giles Counties will receive three of these care bags. Furthermore, her project aims to place at least two age-appropriate books in every elementary school, featuring uplifting stories designed to foster confidence and a positive self-image among children.
