AAA Launches ‘Tow to Go’ Program This Thanksgiving to Combat Impaired Driving

During the Thanksgiving travel season, AAA is once again launching its “Tow to Go” initiative, which provides complimentary tows and rides for individuals who may be impaired. This program aims to mitigate the number of alcohol-related accidents during one of the busiest travel times of the year. The service will be operational from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, until 6 a.m. on Monday, December 1. It is available throughout Tennessee, covering all regions served by AAA – The Auto Club Group, and is also accessible in several other participating states.

Motorists in need of assistance can reach out by calling (855) 2-TOW-2-GO, where they will receive a confidential ride and tow to a safe destination within a 10-mile radius. This program is designed for both AAA members and non-members alike, serving as a crucial last-resort option for those who find themselves without a designated sober driver.

As the holiday approaches, AAA anticipates significant traffic, projecting that over 80 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles during Thanksgiving. Notably, nearly 90 percent of these travelers are expected to be driving.

Statistics reveal a persistent danger associated with impaired driving, with over 12,000 fatalities resulting from alcohol-related incidents last year. Thanksgiving weekend is particularly notorious for being one of the most perilous travel periods. In light of this, AAA is urging drivers to proactively arrange for a sober ride ahead of time and to utilize the Tow to Go service only when other alternatives are not feasible.
