Alabama Launches 14th Annual Sales Tax Holiday for Severe Weather Preparedness

Alabama is gearing up for its annual Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday, which is set to take place from Friday, February 21st, through Sunday, February 23rd. This event allows residents to purchase specific items designed to help them prepare for severe weather without incurring state sales or use tax.

In addition to the state-level exemptions, local counties and municipalities have the option to participate in this initiative. They can choose to exempt the same qualifying items from their own sales or use taxes, provided they pass a resolution or ordinance at least 30 days prior to the last full weekend in February.

For those interested in learning more about the eligible items and which local jurisdictions are participating in this tax holiday, further information can be found at www.ema.alabama.gov. This initiative not only encourages preparedness among residents but also supports local economies during the critical months when severe weather can occur.
