Arrests Made Following Reports of Animal Abuse

In response to a series of animal abuse reports received over the course of a week, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office took action by investigating a residence linked to allegations of aggravated animal abuse. A concerned neighbor reported observing a dog lying in the front yard of the home, suffering from untreated injuries.

Upon attempting to reach the homeowners for a second time, deputies were met with silence. Deputy William Roush described the alarming condition of the dog, stating that it “smelled dead and rotten, but was barely breathing.” The animal had been left in the same spot for an extended period, lacking basic necessities such as shelter, food, and water.

After finally establishing contact with the homeowners, it became evident that both individuals were fully aware of the dog’s dire situation yet chose to take no action. When questioned about the dog’s prolonged suffering in the same location for five days, their explanations were deemed unacceptable. As a result of their neglect, both individuals were arrested and now face charges of Aggravated Animal Cruelty and Cruelty to Animals.
