Approximately one month ago, a collaborative effort between narcotics investigators from the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office and the Athens Police Department led to an investigation into David Lee Johnson, who was suspected of engaging in drug trafficking activities. Authorities alleged that Johnson was involved in the transportation of substantial quantities of marijuana from outside the state, utilizing his truck for these operations.
On April 18, 2025, the Athens Police Department executed a search warrant at Johnson’s residence located on Wales Road in Limestone County. During this operation, law enforcement officials uncovered approximately 45 pounds of marijuana, valued at around $72,000. In addition to the marijuana, officers discovered 656 THC-infused consumables, a collection of eight long guns, six handguns, and a sum of $2,542 in cash.
As a result of the findings during the search, both David Lee Johnson, aged 58, and Brenda Jean Lucas, aged 53, were arrested and charged with Trafficking in Cannabis. Following their arrest, they were able to secure their release on April 20, 2025, after posting a bond set at $100,000.
