Athens Resident Taken into Custody for Alleged Child Sexual Abuse Dating Back Over Ten Years

In a significant development, the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office has taken action against 72-year-old Nickie Van Davis from Athens, Alabama, following a thorough investigation led by Captain Caleb Durden. The charges against Davis involve allegations of sexual abuse directed at a child under the age of 12. On March 4, 2025, Captain Durden submitted a detailed report that outlined the serious nature of the accusations, which include child sexual assault.

The investigation revealed evidence suggesting that there may be additional victims beyond those initially identified. This crucial information provided the necessary probable cause for law enforcement to proceed with Davis’s arrest. When Captain Durden and Investigator Jesse Gibson arrived at Davis’s home, he attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended by the authorities.

As the investigation continues, it is anticipated that further charges may be forthcoming. Currently, Davis’s bond has been set at an imposing $1,000,000 cash for the initial allegations. Reports indicate that his potential victims may range in age from as young as 2 to 15 years old, with the timeline of his alleged offenses possibly spanning over a decade.

Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin expressed his gratitude to those who have come forward, stating, “I am incredibly thankful to those who bravely came forward today to help break the cycle of abuse. Your courage is an inspiration to us all. To all survivors of these horrific crimes, please know that you are not alone; we stand with you and are ready to support you whenever you choose to come forward.” This statement underscores the commitment of law enforcement to support victims and address the serious issue of child abuse in the community.
