Cherokee Man Dies in Bicycle Accident on U.S. 72

A tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening when a Cherokee man lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while riding his electric bicycle on U.S. Highway 72. The victim, identified as 38-year-old Jonathan P. Mullins, was involved in the collision with a 2018 Hyundai Sonata at approximately 7 p.m., roughly seven miles west of Cherokee, as reported by The Times Daily.

Witnesses and authorities indicate that Mullins was riding his bicycle when the car, driven by a 22-year-old woman from Iuka, Mississippi, collided with him. The impact was severe enough to throw Mullins from his bicycle, and he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly thereafter.

As for the driver of the Sonata, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division has not provided any information regarding her injuries. The circumstances surrounding the crash are currently under investigation, as officials work to piece together the events that led to this unfortunate accident.
