Child Hurt in Scooter Incident in Lawrenceburg

On Sunday morning, a child was injured in a traffic incident while riding an electric scooter on East Gaines Street, close to Mimosa Cemetery. The accident took place at approximately 10:43 a.m., as reported by local law enforcement. At the time of the mishap, the child was riding alongside his father. According to the police report, a brick wall surrounding the cemetery obstructed the child’s view, leading him to unexpectedly enter the roadway. Despite his father’s attempts to prevent him from doing so, the child rode into oncoming traffic and was struck by the front bumper of an approaching vehicle.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene within about five minutes to provide assistance. The child suffered a broken leg and was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Authorities have stated that the driver involved in the incident made every possible effort to avoid the collision and is not deemed at fault.

The family of the injured child expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the emergency personnel who responded swiftly and offered compassionate care during a distressing time. In light of this incident, officials are reminding the public to remain vigilant and cautious around emergency scenes. They urge drivers to slow down, give first responders ample space, and exercise patience when encountering such situations. With the summer break now in effect, residents are also encouraged to drive carefully through neighborhoods, remain alert for children playing, and minimize distractions while behind the wheel.
