The City of Columbia is excited to announce the upcoming session of Columbia 101, a dynamic initiative designed to connect residents with community resources and local governance. Applications are now open for the second round of Columbia 101, scheduled for Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025, and Wednesday, April 23rd, 2025. This follows the successful launch of the program in the fall of 2024, which received positive feedback from participants.
Columbia 101 offers a unique opportunity for residents to gain insight into the workings of their local government. Over the course of two days, participants will start their mornings at City Hall, engage with representatives from all twelve city departments, and tour various municipal facilities, including the Public Works and Police Departments. This immersive experience is designed to educate and empower citizens about the functions and services provided by their local government.
Residents of Maury County and the City of Columbia are encouraged to apply, with the application deadline set for 4:00 PM on Friday, March 14th. The program, which occurs twice a year, requires a nominal fee of $25 from selected participants. This fee helps cover essential costs such as transportation and meals during the program. City Manager Tony Massey emphasized the importance of such initiatives, stating, “Providing opportunities for residents to engage with their local government is a priority for the City of Columbia. Columbia 101 is an excellent way for citizens to gain firsthand knowledge about city services and become more involved in their community.”
