In a troubling development, a secretary from Colbert Heights High School has been arrested on charges of child abuse, leading to her placement on administrative leave. Lorinda McCollister, aged 49, who serves as the attendance secretary at the school, was taken into custody on Monday, March 10th. She faces five counts related to the torture or malicious abuse of a minor under the age of 18. Following her arrest, McCollister was released from Colbert County Jail after posting a bond set at $75,000.
Authorities have clarified that the allegations against McCollister do not involve any students from Colbert Heights High School, where she has been employed. Prior to her current role, which she began in July 2024, McCollister had experience as a substitute teacher at the same institution. In light of the serious nature of the charges, Colbert County Superintendent Nathan Fuller had already placed her on administrative leave the Friday before her arrest.
