Columbia Completes Major Improvement Project

The City of Columbia is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Columbia Infrastructure and Greenspace Improvement Project, a significant enhancement for the downtown area. This initiative was made possible through the generous support of General Motors, which provided funding via the GM on Main Street Grant. This grant program, established in collaboration with Columbia Main Street, awarded five local governments and charitable organizations, including the City of Columbia, with $50,000 each earlier this year.

As a result of these upgrades, the downtown area has become not only safer but also more visually appealing for residents and visitors alike. The project was a collaborative effort that involved several city departments, including Development Services, Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and Tourism & Marketing. Their combined efforts were instrumental in both the planning and execution phases, ensuring the project’s success. The partnership with Columbia Main Street was particularly vital in transforming the vision into a tangible reality, ultimately benefiting the entire community.
