In a significant development for the Columbia Fire Department, Chief Ty Cobb’s termination was officially confirmed by city officials on Tuesday. The decision, effective as of 11 AM that day, marks a notable personnel change within the department. This action follows a period of suspension for Cobb, lasting over 30 days due to insubordination issues.
Reports from The Daily Herald indicate that Cobb had been placed on a year-long probation, scheduled to conclude on November 27th. In response to his termination, Cobb mentioned that his legal representation would be issuing a statement in the coming days to address the situation.
Cobb assumed the role of Fire Chief in Columbia back in August 2017, succeeding the late Chief Tommy Ray Hemphill. Notably, Cobb had worked alongside Hemphill for nearly two decades and was the city’s second choice for the position when Hemphill was appointed. Additionally, prior to his role as Fire Chief, Cobb had served as a Tennessee State Representative, adding to his background in public service.
