Columbia Fire & Rescue Honored with 2025 Excellence in Risk Management Award

The City of Columbia has proudly announced that Columbia Fire & Rescue has received the prestigious 2025 Excellence in Risk Management Award from Public Entity Partners. This accolade was bestowed during the Excellence in Risk Management Luncheon, which took place on Thursday, October 2, as part of the annual Risk and Insurance Symposium.

This award highlights the department’s groundbreaking initiatives aimed at improving firefighter wellness, particularly through the introduction of Darby, an emotional support service dog stationed at Fire Station 3. Darby plays a crucial role in providing comfort and support to first responders, assisting them in coping with the stress and trauma that often arise from their demanding emergency response duties.

The recognition serves to emphasize Columbia Fire & Rescue’s steadfast dedication to safeguarding not only the community but also the health and well-being of its firefighters. By adopting innovative strategies in risk management and wellness, the department is setting a commendable standard for fire service agencies throughout the state.
