Columbia Fire & Rescue (CFR) has opened the application process for its upcoming Citizens Fire Academy, set to take place in 2025. This complimentary program is designed to provide community members with an immersive experience into the daily operations of firefighters.
The academy is available to adults aged 18 and older and spans six weeks, offering participants the opportunity to interact closely with CFR personnel. Through a combination of hands-on training, live demonstrations, and informative sessions, the program seeks to foster stronger community relationships, enhance transparency, and showcase the vital work performed by local first responders.
Scheduled to commence on August 11 and conclude on October 13, 2025, the academy will include a variety of engaging activities. Participants can look forward to CPR training, guided tours of fire stations, demonstrations of firefighting equipment, and informative presentations from key divisions within CFR, including Emergency Management, Fire Marshal, and Training. A standout feature of the program will be a simulated fire scene drill, where attendees will gain practical experience in hose deployment, ladder usage, and search-and-rescue techniques.
Sessions will take place at different fire stations across Columbia, providing a distinctive chance to learn directly from the professionals dedicated to serving the community.
Applications for the Citizens Fire Academy are currently being accepted and will remain open until August 4, 2025. For further details or to submit an application, interested individuals can visit columbiatn.gov.
