The City of Columbia is pleased to announce the approval of a significant $420,000 grant through the 2024 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Imminent Threat Program. This funding is aimed at enhancing public safety throughout the city and will be implemented in partnership with the South-Central Tennessee Development District (SCTDD).
As part of this initiative, the city plans to install a state-of-the-art emergency notification system featuring twelve strategically placed sirens. The system will include three electrical sirens equipped with both spoken messages and audio alarms, alongside nine mechanical sirens designed to deliver audible alerts. Once operational, this system will serve as a crucial tool for mass notifications, ensuring that residents are promptly informed during emergencies.
The City of Columbia expresses its gratitude to the South-Central Tennessee Development District for their ongoing collaboration and to the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development for their unwavering support of local initiatives. As the project moves forward, the city will provide regular updates on its progress, keeping the community informed every step of the way.
