Columbia State recently celebrated the achievements of 21 Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and 25 Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (AEMTs) during the Fall 2024 EMS Pinning Ceremony, which took place at the Webster Athletic Center. This event marked a significant milestone for the graduates, who demonstrated remarkable proficiency in their training, achieving an impressive 86% first-time pass rate on the national registry exam for EMTs. Notably, those enrolled in the integrated certificate program excelled, attaining a perfect score on their initial attempt at the EMT national registry.
The role of an EMT is crucial, as they provide essential life-saving care at the scene of medical emergencies, assisting individuals suffering from various illnesses and injuries, and facilitating their transport to medical facilities. In contrast, Advanced EMTs are trained to deliver both basic and advanced life support, ensuring comprehensive care during transport to hospitals.
The Accelerated AEMT program is designed as an intensive, academy-style technical certificate course, equipping students with the necessary skills to become vital members of a pre-hospital emergency medical services team within a single semester. To earn the AAEMT technical certificate, students are required to complete a rigorous 144 hours of clinical rotations, which further enhances their practical experience.
This ceremony not only recognized the hard work and dedication of the graduates but also highlighted the importance of their roles in the healthcare system. Congratulations are in order for these students as they embark on their professional journeys in emergency medical services!
