On the somber evening of October 7th, a student from Loretto High School found himself navigating West Commerce Street when he noticed what appeared to be an individual lying partially in the roadway. Christian Barth, demonstrating commendable instincts, chose to halt his journey and investigate whether this person required help, despite the fact that several vehicles were passing by without stopping.
The individual in distress was Ima Howell, who had just attended a fundraiser at the Loretto Senior Citizens Club. As she was making her way back to her car, she suddenly collapsed near the vehicle. At the time, Howell was bleeding and unable to regain her footing, although she remained conscious throughout the ordeal. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Barth quickly ran into the center to seek assistance. His prompt actions were crucial; had he not intervened, Howell could have faced far more serious consequences from her fall.
In recognition of his bravery and quick thinking, the Loretto Senior Citizen Club honored Christian Barth with the title of “Hero of the Month.” His selfless act not only exemplified courage but also highlighted the importance of looking out for one another in times of need.
