Community Forum on Proposed Merger of Water Departments

On Friday, June 13, from 11 AM to 12 PM, a public meeting will be convened by staff from the Tennessee Board of Utility Regulation at Leoma Elementary School. The focus of this gathering will be a proposed merger between the Leoma District and the Lawrenceburg Utilities System. It is important to note that the Leoma District has officially expressed its opposition to this merger. Concerns raised by local residents include the potential for a significant increase in water rates, a decline in the quality of service, and a loss of local governance over utility matters.

Residents who wish to voice their opinions during the meeting are required to inform the Tennessee Utility Board in advance. This can be done by sending an email to [email protected] at least two business days before the meeting. Each speaker will be allotted three minutes to present their views, provided that the meeting adheres to the scheduled timeframe of 11 AM to noon.

Additionally, those interested in this issue are encouraged to reach out to their county commissioners, including Dennis Gillespie, Steve Hagan, or Jonathon Bradley, for further engagement. State Representative Clay Doggett is also expected to attend the meeting and can be contacted directly at 615-741-7476 for any inquiries or concerns regarding the proposed merger.
