Complete Resignation of Cornersville Fire Department

In a surprising turn of events, the entire Fire Department of Cornersville has resigned, including Fire Chief Matt Fox. This news was reported by WKRN News 2, highlighting a significant shift in the town’s emergency services. During a meeting with the Mayor and the Board of Alderpersons on Thursday, Chief Fox formally announced his resignation, describing the decision as one that had been difficult and one he had contemplated for an extended period.

Alongside Fox, every member of his six-person team also chose to resign, each submitting their letters independently. In light of this development, the South Marshall Volunteer Fire Department, which operates separately from Cornersville’s fire services, took to social media to reassure the community that they would continue their operations. However, they did caution that the recent changes might result in slightly longer response times for emergencies in Cornersville.

The South Marshall Volunteer Fire Department expressed their understanding of the situation, acknowledging that Fox and his team made their choices independently and extending their best wishes to them. In his resignation letter, Chief Fox pointed to ongoing difficulties in ensuring adequate fire protection for the community as a primary reason for his departure. He also mentioned the personal burdens he faced, such as financial strains and the necessity of storing departmental records at his home.

Fox assured that all relevant documentation, equipment, and financial accounts would be handed over to city officials as part of the transition. Furthermore, he indicated that he is in the process of notifying state agencies regarding his resignation, ensuring that all necessary protocols are followed during this significant change in leadership.
