Daycare in Athens Shuts Down for Enhanced Safety Measures for Children and Staff

King’s Kids Daycare, located in Athens, Alabama, has made the difficult decision to cease operations, impacting nearly 50 children who attend daily. The announcement came from Desire Horton, the owner of the daycare, who expressed her deep concerns regarding the safety of both the children and staff. This decision follows a series of unsettling events that have raised alarms about security at the facility.

The situation escalated on March 15th when surveillance footage revealed a man attempting to enter the daycare, which marked the beginning of heightened safety worries. In response to this incident, Horton has been in discussions with local law enforcement to address these security issues. Despite receiving assurances that additional patrols would be implemented to protect the daycare and its young attendees, these promised measures have yet to materialize.

On Thursday morning, the situation took another alarming turn when an unidentified man approached the daycare while children were present. Although he did not manage to enter the building, he lingered nearby for several minutes, prompting daycare staff to alert the police and initiate emergency protocols. Given these ongoing safety concerns, Horton ultimately decided to close the daycare as a precautionary measure to ensure the well-being of the children and staff, prioritizing their safety above all else.
