Donna Marie Nix, 64, of Florence, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home on June 8, 2024, after a two-year battle with stage IV ovarian cancer. Donna Marie Nix was born on January 7, 1960, to Walter and Dixie Tidwell in Florence, Alabama. After graduating from LCHS, she went on to earn her LPN license at Shoals Community College. Donna worked 42 years total, at ECM and then NAMC. Donna began working in the nursery but spent the second half of her career working in Labor and Delivery.
In 1985, Ralph met Donna through their shared church and the Court House Racquet Club in Florence, Alabama. Donna and Ralph were married on December 21, 1991. Donna and Ralph went on to have a daughter, Grace Marie Nix. Donna was predeceased by her parents, Dixie Marie Tidwell and Walter Neil Tidwell. She is survived by her husband, Ralph Marion Nix; her daughter, Grace Marie Ryan, and son in law, Steven Ray Ryan; her granddaughter, River Marie Ryan; her two stepchildren, David Nix and Elizabeth Johnston; her brothers, Jerry Tidwell, Barry Tidwell, and Terry Tidwell.
Donna’s faith in the Lord was the cornerstone of her existence. Described by those who knew her as selfless, loving, and whole-hearted, Donna demonstrated these virtues in every aspect of her life. She assisted in the delivery and care of hundreds of babies in Florence. She volunteered for over 15 years as a nurse and camp counselor at Camp Sumatanga during the Youth Special Needs week. She was an active member of Florence First Assembly. She rarely missed a family event no matter how small and arrived with cookies in hand. Donna left a legacy of kindness and compassion. She was a light in this world and her legacy will live on in the countless lives she has touched. Through her actions, she exemplified what it means to be a living testimony of Christ.
Service will be held at Double Head Lodge on July 7 at 3:30 p.m. and the family will receive friends at 3:00 p.m. Elkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
