Mrs. Edna Joe King Nelson, 83, of Somerville, TN, passed away on October 6th, 2025, at her home with her son by her side. Mrs. Nelson spent her childhood in Lawrenceburg, TN, before moving to the Memphis area where she graduated from Sacred Heart High School. She attended The University of Memphis before marrying James “Buddy” Nelson in 1966. The family later moved to Lawrenceburg, where they ran King’s Lighting for many years. Mrs. Nelson retired from The University of Memphis, where she worked in the Residence Life Department. She is survived by her son, Lance Nelson; her grandchildren, Kristina Pilkinton (Jeffrey), Chelsie Willis (Josh), and Alex Hutcheson (Rachael); as well as seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her parents, George & Lorine Toben King, her husband James “Buddy” Nelson, and one sister, Julia “Judy” King Weaver. A memorial will be held on Friday, November 14th, at Saint Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Somerville, TN, with a graveside service to follow on Monday, November 17th, at Mimosa Cemetery in Lawrenceburg, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Right to Life program through the Catholic Church.
