During their February meeting, officials from the City of Ethridge addressed a pressing issue concerning the city’s septic tank. It was revealed that the current septic tank is not located on property owned by the city, which has raised concerns about its management and maintenance. To resolve this problem, city officials explored the possibility of boring beneath the railroad tracks to connect the existing tank to the municipal sanitary sewer system. However, this approach would come with a hefty price tag of approximately $500,000. After careful consideration of the costs involved, the officials concluded that a more cost-effective solution would be to install a new septic tank on city-owned land adjacent to city hall. This alternative not only promises to be more financially viable but also ensures better oversight and management of the city’s waste disposal needs.
