During a meeting held on March 17, leaders in Ethridge listened attentively to the concerns raised by local residents about flooding issues in the area. Citizens expressed their worries about certain locations that have become increasingly susceptible to water accumulation during heavy rains. They noted that in recent years, some property owners have taken measures to elevate their land in an effort to mitigate the effects of rainwater pooling. While these actions have benefited those specific properties, they have inadvertently led to increased water accumulation on neighboring lands.
In response to these concerns, the commission acknowledged the limitations of the city’s ability to intervene in matters concerning private property modifications. However, they assured residents that they would focus on maintaining the drainage tiles throughout the community. By ensuring these drainage systems are kept clear and in good repair, the commission aims to alleviate some of the flooding issues that have been affecting the area.
