A new State Park is on the horizon for the local community, as plans are underway to enhance a 950-acre wilderness area situated in Lewis County, near the border with Hickman County. This area, known as Devil’s Backbone State Natural Area, is conveniently located just north of where the Natchez Trace intersects with Highway 412, and lies to the west of the Trace itself.
The State of Tennessee is set to initiate further development in this picturesque region, transitioning it from its current designation as a State Natural Area to that of a State Park. This transformation promises to provide enhanced recreational opportunities and preserve the natural beauty of the landscape for future generations to enjoy.
