Florence Arts and Museums Set to Present Open Mic Poetry Night on August 26

The Florence Department of Arts and Museums is set to present its upcoming Open Mic Night on Monday, August 26, starting at 6:30 p.m. This event will take place at the Southall House, located at 209 E. Tuscaloosa St. The theme for this month’s gathering is “Something Found,” encouraging poets to delve into the topic through their original works in both imaginative and personal manners.

Highlighting the evening will be a special reading by Tom Gordon, a poet and journalist hailing from Birmingham. Following his performance, the floor will open for an open mic session, allowing audience members to share their own poetry. The organizers emphasize that this event is designed to foster a love for poetry, strengthen community ties, and create an inclusive environment for poets, whether they are seasoned professionals or newcomers.

Attendance for this enriching program is free of charge. Additionally, those interested in exploring more artistic offerings can visit the Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts, situated right next door at 217 E. Tuscaloosa St. The center operates Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. For further details, individuals can reach out by calling 256-760-6379.
