On Saturday, September 27, the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a disturbance that involved an off-duty officer from the Florence Police Department and another person. Upon arrival, deputies conducted an investigation that included interviewing several witnesses to the incident. As a result of their findings, Officer Evan Thornton was taken into custody and charged with third-degree domestic violence. Following his arrest, Thornton was processed at the Lauderdale County Detention Center, where he was assigned a bond amount of $5,000. It is important to note that he is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. In light of the situation, Thornton has been placed on administrative leave from his duties.
