In the early hours of the morning, officers from the Florence Police Department swiftly responded to reports of gunfire in the 1100 block of East Bluff Street. Upon arrival, law enforcement spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s fleeing the scene. A traffic stop was promptly conducted, leading to the detention of the vehicle’s sole occupant, identified as Matthew Burnett.
The incident unfolded when Burnett allegedly fired shots at a complainant while driving through Sheffield. The complainant, unharmed, then sought refuge at their residence in Florence. Shortly thereafter, Burnett arrived at the residence and discharged several rounds, causing damage to the house as some bullets pierced through the walls. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the reckless shooting.
Matthew Burnett was taken into custody and now faces charges for discharging a firearm into an occupied building. As authorities delve deeper into the matter, the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
