In a regular session on Thursday, the Lawrence County Board of Education convened with six board members present while three were absent. The meeting commenced by honoring retired educator Elizabeth Liz Green and Loretto High School’s student of the month, Kate Cheatham. Director of Schools, Michael Adkins, provided an update to the attendees, highlighting ongoing budget discussions and collaborations with County Executive David Morgan on future growth and capital projects.
Adkins praised the staff for their diligent efforts during the state-mandated testing week and mentioned that some faculty members have reviewed the proposed salary schedule, expressing gratitude for the board’s attention to salary matters. The leaders proceeded to vote and unanimously approved all consent items, including field trips and volunteer approvals.
Budget items concerning bids for paving the parking lot at New Prospect, sports facility construction for Summertown High School Phase 1, and greenhouse construction at E.O. Coffman and South Lawrence Elementary were also given the green light. The board scheduled a work session for May 6th at 5 PM to delve further into upcoming matters.
