Inmate at Limestone Correctional Facility Dies Following Altercation with Fellow Inmate

An incident at the Limestone Correctional Facility in north Alabama has resulted in the death of an inmate following a violent confrontation with another inmate. The altercation occurred on Friday and involved Montavius Banks and Justin Orlando Lewis, both of whom were serving 20-year sentences for separate offenses. According to officials at the facility, Banks sustained severe injuries during the altercation, which reportedly involved a weapon.

After the incident, he was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The Alabama Department of Corrections’ Law Enforcement Services Division is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event. Meanwhile, Lewis remains in custody and is expected to face charges related to the assault.

Montavius Banks, aged 31, was serving time for a burglary conviction from Jefferson County, while the 36-year-old Justin Orlando Lewis was incarcerated for an assault conviction stemming from an incident in Colbert County. The tragic event highlights ongoing concerns regarding safety and violence within correctional facilities.
