A violent incident at the South Central Correctional Facility (SCCF) in Wayne County resulted in the death of one inmate and left two others hospitalized on Wednesday evening. The altercation unfolded around 5:30 p.m. within a housing unit, prompting a swift response from the facility’s staff, who are employed by CoreCivic, the private company managing the prison on behalf of the state.
Upon arrival at the scene, staff discovered three inmates suffering from injuries sustained during the confrontation. In response to the severity of the situation, two of the injured inmates were airlifted to a local hospital for urgent medical care, while a third inmate was transported via emergency medical services. Tragically, this third individual succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
CoreCivic has since reported that one of the injured inmates has been discharged and returned to the facility, while the other remains under medical care. As of now, there has been no additional information released regarding the circumstances that led to the altercation or the identities of those involved in the incident.
