James “Jimmy” Black, a resident of Minor Hill, passed away at the age of 91 on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Hospice Family Care in Huntsville. Born in Minor Hill, Jimmy was known for his versatility and skills, often referred to as a “jack of all trades.” His life was marked by service, having served in the United States Army, and he later contributed to his community as a Commissioner in Giles County. He was also an active member of both the Civic Club and the Minor Hill Church of Christ.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation scheduled for Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM at Carr and Erwin Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a service will be held at 2:30 PM, with burial to take place at Minor Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the Bank of Frankewing to assist with family expenses during this difficult time.
Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy Thigpen Black, also of Minor Hill. He leaves behind a son, Derek Black, and a daughter, Debbie Gatlin, who is married to Browney, both residing in the area. Additionally, he is survived by his stepdaughter, Tammy Ball, and her husband Eddie from Pulaski, as well as his stepson, Marty Robinson, and his wife Keala from Lawrenceburg. He is also remembered by his stepbrother, Richard Felker, and his wife Evelyn of Pulaski, along with his stepsister, Fay Carter, and her husband Larry from Elkmont. Jimmy’s legacy continues through his nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
