Nettie Jean Hollis, 88, of Florence, passed away on December 29, 2025, at North Alabama Medical Center. Jean was a devoted member of the Church of Christ and a current member of Mount Zion Church of Christ. She dedicated 25+ years to teaching, with her last 20 years spent at Wilson Elementary. After retiring, she selflessly volunteered for 6 years at hospice and hospitals. Jean’s love for her family and church family was immeasurable, and she will be remembered as a kind soul with a generous heart.
Jean is survived by her son Wendal Hollis, daughter Sylvia Stephenson, sisters Clarisa Alexander (Jerry) and Ruth Malone, as well as her grandchildren Brooklyn and Madelyn.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Lem Hollis, son John Byron Hollis, parents Melvin Tolbert Hubbard and Phoebe Odell Rhodes Hubbard, and brothers Quillen “Tee” Hubbard and Marvin Neal “Catfish” Hubbard.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 1, 2026, from 11:00am – 1:00pm, at Greenhill Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 1:00pm in the funeral home chapel, with Scotty Sparks and Baron Vander Maas officiating. Jean will be laid to rest at Jessie’s Garden Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Rodney Hubbard, Warren Hubbard, Patrick Alexander, Chuck Tash, Lance Pruitt, and Tim Clanton. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Gifford and Tim Rhodes.
