Jewel Dean “Spunk” Womble Ellis

Jewel Dean “Spunk” Womble Ellis, 86, of Lawrenceburg, TN, passed away on July 5, 2025, at NHC Healthcare Scott. She was born on November 16, 1938, in Giles County, TN, to the late JD and Lacy Crumbly Womble. Jewel was known as “Spunk” from an early age and grew up on a farm in Lawrence County, TN, with her eight siblings. On October 4, 1958, she married Verbon Ray Ellis, and they had three sons, Terry, Ronnie, and Bobby.

Jewel was a hardworking and proud country girl who enjoyed activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, and riding horses with her family. She was known for her love of gardening and spent countless hours tending to her flowers, earning her the nickname “Flower Lady.” Her love for music, creativity, and writing poetry brought joy to her life, and she was known for her laughter and love of funny movies and TV shows.

Jewel is survived by her three sons, Terry, Ronnie, and Bobby, along with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Verbon Ellis, brother Bill Womble, and sister Mildred Womble Thompson.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 12th, at Mars Hill Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg, TN, with a celebration of life service following visitation. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family encourages making a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
