Joyce Davis Mayfield

Joyce Davis Mayfield of Madison, AL, was born May 18, 1928, in Stella, TN. She passed away at Limestone Nursing Home in Athens, AL on January 18, 2024. She was 95 years of age.

Joyce was a loving stepmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She grew up on her family’s dairy farm in Stella, TN.

Joyce attended Prospect High School, Prospect, TN, and graduated in 1946 as the class Valedictorian. After graduating from high school, she attended Middle Tennessee State University receiving a BS Degree in Education in 1951. She furthered her education at the University of South Carolina.

Joyce taught school for thirty years in the Pulaski school system, Giles County TN. During the early part of her teaching career, Joyce coached both the girls’ basketball team at Campbellsville High School and at Pulaski Junior High School.

Joyce’s love of travel carried her to all fifty states with stories to share of each that she visited. Her other love was sports, especially football and basketball. She always had a game to watch during the seasons and, of course, TN teams were her favorite.

Joyce was a Christian and a member of East Hill Church of Christ, Pulaski, TN attending for many years before moving to Alabama.

The visitation will be 12:00pm to 1:00pm Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Bennett-May & Pierce Funeral Home.

The funeral service will follow at 1:00pm, on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, in the chapel of Bennett-May & Pierce Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Johnson officiating.

The burial will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery.

Joyce was preceded in death by her late husbands: Leon Bradford Roberts, James E. Mayfield, and Robert M Bradford, Sr., her parents, William Hiram Davis and Reba Mobley Davis Beasley and brothers: James Davis, Edward Grey Davis, Don O’Neil Davis, as well as her sister, Marie Davis Appleton, and stepson Richard A. Bradford.

She is survived by her sister, Evelyn Davis Smith of Athens, AL and her special cousin, Judy Mobley Carr of Pulaski, TN. Joyce is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews from TX, AL, and TN.

Joyce is additionally survived by her stepdaughter, Beckie Bradford (Randall) Sullivan and stepsons Robert M. (Bettye) Bradford, Jr., and Stephen D. (Hsiu Chin) Bradford and many step-grandchildren.

Pallbearers:  Randall Sullivan, Stephen Bradford, Paul Trowbridge, Eric Lester, Cody Slaton, and Tyler Moore.  Honorary pallbearers: Robert M Bradford, Jr., Bill Smith, Mark Gireth, and Mike Mayfield.
