In July, Tennessee experienced a rise in unemployment across nearly all counties, primarily attributed to seasonal factors such as school vacations, as reported by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD). Specifically, unemployment rates increased in 92 out of the state’s 95 counties, while three counties maintained their previous rates.
Among the counties, 55 reported unemployment rates below 5%, whereas 40 counties had rates at or above the 5% threshold. Sevier County recorded the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 3.3%, closely followed by Cheatham County, which had a rate of 3.4%. Additionally, five counties—Wilson, Williamson, Sumner, Dickson, and Davidson—each reported an unemployment rate of 3.6%.
On the other end of the spectrum, Weakley County faced the highest unemployment rate at 8.5%, marking a significant increase of 3.5 percentage points from the previous month. Greene County followed with a rate of 6.8%, while Perry County reported a rate of 6.7%.
Looking ahead, the statewide unemployment data for August is set to be released on September 18. For those interested in a detailed breakdown of the July county rates, further information can be found at www.tn.gov/workforce.
