The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office is honoring the retirement of Deputy Karen Knox, a trailblazer as the first female deputy in the county’s history. Knox embarked on her law enforcement journey with the department in 1972, dedicating over three decades of service until her initial retirement in 2004. Following a period working in security at Browns Ferry, she made a notable return to the sheriff’s office in 2021. Throughout her distinguished career, Knox had the unique experience of serving under seven different sheriffs in Lauderdale County, marking her as a significant figure in the department’s evolution.
