Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department Alerts Public to “Final Notice” Scam Threat

The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department has issued a warning to the community regarding a scam that involves deceptive claims about unpaid traffic citations. Reports have surfaced from multiple individuals who have received phone calls from someone impersonating an official from the Alabama Department of Transportation.

During these calls, the impersonator informs the victims that they have received a “final notice” regarding an outstanding traffic ticket. The caller goes on to threaten severe repercussions for non-compliance, including the suspension of vehicle registration, revocation of driving privileges, potential damage to credit scores, and even the possibility of legal action. The scammer pressures the victims for immediate payment to avoid these dire consequences.

In light of this fraudulent activity, authorities are advising anyone who receives such a call to refrain from sharing any personal information. Instead, they should reach out to their local law enforcement agency to report the incident and seek assistance.
