On Friday, August 9, 2024, members of the Lawrenceburg Rotary Club had the pleasure of welcoming Leigh Ann Pettus and Ginger Morgan from Friends of Lawrence County Animals (FOLCA). This organization, recognized as a 501c3 nonprofit, is committed to enhancing the welfare of domestic animals throughout Lawrence County. FOLCA plays a crucial role in fundraising efforts for the newly established animal shelter and offers financial support for spaying and neutering services to residents who may require assistance.
The animal shelter receives funding from both local government sources and FOLCA, highlighting a collaborative effort to address the needs of the community’s animals. During the meeting, Ms. Pettus provided an update on the organization’s spay and neuter initiative, known as SNIPS, which has successfully treated 750 animals over the past two years. This program is vital in controlling the pet population and ensuring healthier lives for the animals involved.
Ginger Morgan, who took on the role of director at the animal shelter in October 2023, shared her vision for the facility. She emphasized the importance of creating a play yard for dogs, which would greatly enhance their quality of life while at the shelter. Additionally, she outlined various projects that are currently on the shelter’s wish list, aimed at further improving the conditions and care for the animals housed there.
The program was introduced by Rotarian Olivia White, who set the stage for an informative discussion about the ongoing efforts to support animal welfare in the community.
