The Lawrence County Board of Education is scheduled to convene on Thursday, April 17th, at 5:00 PM. The agenda for this meeting is quite comprehensive, featuring a variety of topics that will be addressed through presentations, recognitions, consent items, reports, budget discussions, and other matters requiring consideration and action.
Among the presentations, attendees can look forward to celebrating the achievements of the Civics Bee winners and the State Lego League champions. Additionally, Blair Smith, a doctoral student in Occupational Therapy from UTC, will also be presenting. The meeting will also include recognitions for retired educator Charles Gobbell, along with students from both Leoma Elementary School (LES) and David Crockett Elementary School (DCES).
In terms of consent items, the board will seek approval for the minutes from previous meetings, a business report, the list of volunteers, and plans for overnight field trips. The report section will cover updates from Leoma Elementary and David Crockett Elementary, a personnel report, an overview of capital projects, and insights from the Lawrence County Education Association (LCEA) and the Tennessee Legislative Network.
Budget discussions will focus on several key initiatives, including the district-wide adoption of new science textbooks and the procurement of floor care products. Furthermore, there will be considerations for upgrading the lighting at the baseball, football, and soccer fields at LCHS, as well as matching funds for football bleachers in collaboration with the City of Lawrenceburg. The agenda will also touch on the appointment of a wastewater plant operator for SHS.
Lastly, the board will address future meetings, including a Budget Work Session set for Thursday, May 22nd, at 4:00 PM, followed by a Regular Board Meeting on the same day at 5:00 PM. This meeting promises to be an important opportunity for the board to engage with the community and make significant decisions regarding the educational landscape in Lawrence County.
