Lawrence County Commences Construction on New Health Department Facility

On Friday morning, a significant milestone was reached as county officials and local residents gathered to commemorate the groundbreaking of the new Lawrence County Health Department. This facility will be situated at 1601 Liberty Avenue in Lawrenceburg, marking the culmination of a three-year effort to enhance health services in the community. County Health Director Devin Ezell shared that the impetus for relocating the health department stemmed from witnessing a new mother navigating Buffalo Road with a baby stroller to access essential services.

The new health department will span 12,500 square feet and will feature a drive-thru service, designed to improve accessibility for residents seeking primary care, dental services, WIC, and other forms of assistance. Funding for this project has been robust, with the state contributing $4.2 million and an additional $1.2 million sourced from federal COVID relief funds.

During the ceremony, Mayor Blake Lay and County Executive David Morgan emphasized the positive impact this new facility will have on the community. They also acknowledged the crucial collaboration among local, county, and state officials that made this project possible. Executive Morgan reflected on his own experiences growing up, noting how his family relied on the Health Department for vital services. He also pointed out that the project was accomplished without utilizing any local tax dollars.

The architectural design of the new building is being handled by Wold Architects and Engineers, who were present at the event, alongside Tyler Doss from Doss Brothers’ Construction. Doss Brothers have already made significant progress by beginning the foundation work, ensuring that the construction timeline remains on track.
