Lawrence County Commission Scheduled to Meet on July 22 for Routine Session

The Lawrence County Board of Commissioners is set to convene for its regular meeting on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. This gathering will take place in Courtroom A of the Lawrence County Courthouse.

During the session, there will be an opportunity for public input, allowing attendees to voice their opinions on agenda-related topics. Each participant will be granted a maximum of three minutes to express their thoughts. Additionally, the commissioners will receive bi-monthly financial updates from both the fiscal agent and the Director of Schools, providing insight into the county’s financial health.

On the agenda, the board is expected to deliberate and vote on a series of important resolutions. These include the approval of minutes from previous meetings held on May 27 and June 30. Furthermore, amendments to the county budget for the fiscal year 2025–2026 will be considered.

Another significant item on the agenda is the establishment of a Department of Probation Services specifically for General Sessions Court. The board will also discuss the acquisition of land adjacent to the public library, which is intended for future expansion.

In addition, there will be discussions regarding adjustments to property tax assessments from previous years, as well as proposed changes to incentive payments for both county commissioners and employees. The allocation of funds derived from the opioid abatement settlement will also be on the table for approval.

Moreover, the commissioners will consider authorizing the acceptance of donations for the animal shelter and will review the adoption fees associated with this initiative. Funding for a new walk-in cooler and freezer for God’s Storehouse is another key point of discussion. Lastly, the board will look into providing additional incentives for county employees who complete professional certifications.
