The Lawrence County Commission is scheduled to convene a special meeting on Monday, June 30, 2025, to tackle a comprehensive agenda that encompasses crucial budgetary decisions for the forthcoming fiscal year, updates to employee policies, and significant agreements that will impact county operations.
The meeting will commence with the presentation of two honorary resolutions. The first resolution celebrates the achievements of the 2025 Summertown Lady Eagles Tennis Team, which has had a remarkable championship season. The second resolution pays tribute to Cavan Love, a student from Summertown High School, who has distinguished himself by winning the 2025 SkillsUSA Tennessee State Championship in welding. Both resolutions are put forth by Commissioner Scott Franks in collaboration with County Executive David Morgan.
During the session, there will be an opportunity for public input on items related to the agenda, allowing each speaker a maximum of three minutes to express their views. Following this, the commission will proceed with the election of notaries.
A total of fifteen resolutions are slated for discussion, addressing a variety of financial and administrative issues. These include the approval of contributions to non-profit and charitable organizations, the allocation of hotel-motel tax revenue, and the establishment of the tax levy for the fiscal year 2025–26. Additionally, the agenda will cover appropriations for various county departments, agencies, and institutions, as well as amendments to policies regarding holiday pay and compensatory or overtime pay for county employees.
Other significant items on the agenda include a one-time transfer of funds from the Solid Waste Fund to the General Fund, an increase in litigation taxes for General Sessions Court, and budget amendments for the current fiscal year. The commission will also consider amendments to the Lawrence County Board of Education budget, an interlocal agreement with the City of Lawrenceburg concerning animal shelter operations, and a contract for providing mobile dental services to inmates at the county jail.
Furthermore, the agenda includes the authorization of a construction contract with Doss Brothers, Inc. for the new county health department building, amendments to the county’s worker’s compensation policy, and a one-time contribution to Lawrence County Fire and Rescue, Inc. sourced from the anticipated budget surplus for 2024–25.
County Executive David Morgan serves as the sponsor or co-sponsor for each of these resolutions, receiving backing from various county committees. This special session is poised to significantly influence the financial and operational trajectory of Lawrence County as officials finalize their plans in anticipation of the new fiscal year commencing on July 1.
