The Lawrence County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) has published its monthly report for March, revealing significant activity within the department. During this month, the EMS received a total of 660 requests for assistance, leading to the transportation of 436 patients. In addition to local transfers to Southern Tennessee Regional Hospital in Lawrenceburg, the department facilitated 55 transports to Maury Regional Hospital, 8 to Southern Tennessee Regional Hospital in Pulaski, 20 to North Alabama Medical Center, and 50 to hospitals in non-adjoining counties.
The report also highlighted that there were 169 instances where patients refused care or did not require any medical attention. Additionally, there were 82 calls that were either canceled or resulted in no patient being found. The department responded to 8 requests for fire standby, law enforcement assistance, and mutual aid, while also engaging in 4 community outreach activities.
Notably, the call volume for March 2025 marked a 20% increase compared to February and a 10% rise when compared to March 2024. To enhance their skills, EMS personnel participated in continuing education sessions throughout March, which included training on bariatric care and protocols for refusal of care. Some responders also completed the Pediatric Advanced Life Support Course, further strengthening their capabilities.
Moreover, the department hosted a regional Neonatal Resuscitation Program at the STHEC in Lawrenceburg. This training proved invaluable, as it contributed to the successful delivery of a baby during a patient transport the following week. LCEMS was also active in the community, participating in four outreach events where they provided education to thirty students and ensured standby support for various events.
On March 19th, administrators from LCEMS traveled to Nashville for EMS Day on the Hill, where they engaged with legislators to discuss important issues affecting emergency medical services. This month’s statistics and activities underscore the department’s commitment to serving the community and enhancing the skills of its responders.
