Residents of Tennessee have an opportunity to safely dispose of their household hazardous waste during a designated collection day scheduled for the end of this month. The Lawrence County Solid Waste Facility will be hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event on Saturday, March 29th, from 8:00 AM until noon. This facility is conveniently located at 2126 Baler Drive, accessible via Helton Drive in Lawrenceburg.
The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation is sponsoring this initiative, ensuring that there are no costs associated with participation, making it a free service available to all households in the area. On average, Tennessee households produce approximately 20 pounds of hazardous waste each year. This waste can include a variety of items such as cleaning agents, pesticides, antifreeze, fertilizers, and chemicals used for swimming pools.
Hazardous waste is defined as materials that can easily ignite, cause irritation to living tissues, react dangerously with water or other chemicals, or pose health risks to both humans and animals. Among the items accepted during this collection event are motor oil, antifreeze, various automotive products, batteries, solvents, household cleaners, furniture polish, drain openers, bleach, nail polish and remover, pesticides, and compressed gas tanks, including those containing propane and oxygen. Additionally, rechargeable batteries, lithium and button batteries, mercury thermometers, and fluorescent light bulbs will also be collected.
