During its latest meeting, the Lawrenceburg City Council unanimously approved all items on the agenda and took a moment to recognize the contributions of firefighter Jason Frakes, who has retired after an impressive tenure of over 27 years with the Lawrenceburg Fire Department.
In addition to honoring Frakes, the planning commission provided updates on several upcoming development initiatives. Notably, construction for a new Waffle House is set to commence on September 8, while plans for a Starbucks location are also in the works and will begin shortly. Furthermore, officials announced that a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Lawrence County Health Department building is scheduled for Friday, August 29. This new facility will be located behind Rotary Park and is anticipated to be completed by June 2026.
The council members also moved forward with three ordinances during their second reading. One of these ordinances aims to update the definitions of taxicabs within the municipal code, while the other two focus on revising budget appropriations for the city’s General Fund for the fiscal years 2024–2025 and 2025–2026. Additionally, a resolution was passed that authorizes a property sale agreement between the City of Lawrenceburg and Lawrence County concerning land situated at 2279 Highway 43 South and Eagle Factory Road.
