On Thursday, May 8th, Fire Chief Jay Moore presented an update to the City Council regarding the current status of the Lawrence County Fire Department. During his address, he provided comprehensive data sheets that outlined the department’s performance for the entirety of 2024, as well as the early statistics for 2025.
In 2024, the fire department recorded a total of 2,518 calls for service. This figure encompasses a variety of incidents, including 157 instances of authorized controlled burning, 158 lift assists, and 47 public service calls. Additionally, the department responded to 152 motor vehicle accidents involving injuries, attended to 33 building fires, and provided medical assistance alongside EMS crews on 216 occasions. Notably, there were 1,303 EMS calls that did not involve vehicle accidents with injuries.
As for the current year, from January 1st to April 30th, 2025, the department has already responded to 806 calls for service. This year’s statistics include 47 authorized controlled burns, 68 lift assists, and 18 public service requests. The department also dealt with 19 motor vehicle accidents with injuries, 11 building fires, and provided medical assistance with EMS crews on 37 occasions. Furthermore, there were 436 EMS calls, excluding those related to vehicle accidents with injuries.
The reports also highlighted that the fire department has managed 197 multiple calls for service, which indicates instances where multiple units were dispatched to different locations simultaneously.
