At the recent meeting of the Lawrenceburg Rotary Club held on Friday, July 25, Mayor Blake Lay took center stage as the keynote speaker, offering an insightful overview of the city’s ongoing development and future prospects. During his address, Mayor Lay highlighted the influx of new residents to Lawrenceburg, which has spurred significant growth in residential areas, the establishment of new businesses, and the expansion of retail opportunities.
One of the key announcements made by the mayor was the establishment of the Lumber Liquidators National Distribution Center, which is set to be constructed on Motivation Drive. This development is a significant milestone for the city, and to accommodate this and other economic initiatives, Motivation Drive has been extended to connect with Buffalo Road.
In his remarks, Mayor Lay also introduced Matthew Brown, who has recently been appointed as the city planner. He commended the collaborative efforts among various city departments and partner organizations, stating, “Lawrenceburg is becoming a showplace for other communities.” He emphasized that the city’s success is largely due to the strong partnerships forged between the city, county, neighboring municipalities, and public service organizations throughout the region.
Addressing the pressing issue of housing demand, Mayor Lay outlined the city’s plans to tackle the existing shortage. With projections indicating that Lawrence County’s population may surpass 50,000 in the near future, there is an urgent need for enhanced infrastructure and housing solutions. Looking to the future, he mentioned that Lawrenceburg is currently in the design phase for a new water treatment facility, which is anticipated to be operational by approximately 2031. He reassured attendees that the existing water system is functioning effectively and highlighted the reliable availability of electric and gas services, which are crucial for supporting ongoing growth.
In closing, Mayor Lay acknowledged the vital role of collaboration with service organizations like Rotary. He expressed gratitude for the club’s ongoing commitment to improving the community of Lawrenceburg. The Lawrenceburg Rotary Club, which meets weekly, actively seeks speakers who can provide valuable insights into the progress and challenges faced by the community. The club remains dedicated to the principle of service above self and to fostering partnerships that benefit Lawrence County and its residents.
