LCFR Enhances Supplemental Staffing to Boost Response Times

Lawrence County Fire & Rescue has taken significant steps to enhance its weekday staffing capabilities by extending its supplemental staffing initiative to Ethridge Station 2 and Leoma Station 8. This expansion, which began on December 1, involves the deployment of two trained personnel at each of these stations from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The supplemental staffing program was initially introduced in August, featuring a three-person crew stationed at the Training Center. The primary goal of this initiative is to ensure rapid responses during the daytime hours when many volunteer firefighters are engaged in their regular jobs. A recent quarterly assessment has indicated that this program has already made a positive impact, contributing to the protection of both lives and property within the community.

In light of the program’s success, officials recognized the need to relocate crews from Lawrenceburg to various locations throughout the county. This strategic move aims to reduce response times, particularly in areas near schools and major thoroughfares. To facilitate this transition, the Lawrence County Fire & Rescue Board unanimously approved funding for an additional staff position during their meeting on November 25.

Fire officials have underscored the vital role that volunteers play within the department, acknowledging their unwavering support for the supplemental staffing program. Their contributions have been instrumental in enabling career personnel to effectively operate from their respective stations, ensuring that the community remains well-protected at all times.
