The Lewis County Government has received a significant boost in its recycling efforts, thanks to a recent award from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC). The agency has approved a Recycling Equipment Grant amounting to $125,000, which will play a crucial role in enhancing the county’s waste management capabilities. Under this grant, the State of Tennessee will cover 90% of the funding, while the local Solid Waste fund will contribute the remaining 10%.
This financial support will be utilized to acquire a large commercial baler for the Transfer Station, a piece of equipment that is expected to significantly improve both the efficiency and speed of cardboard recycling operations within the county. The introduction of this baler is anticipated to streamline processes and bolster the overall effectiveness of recycling initiatives in Lewis County.
In light of this achievement, the Lewis County Government has expressed its gratitude to State Representative Jody Barret and State Senator Dr. Joey Hensley. Their ongoing support for the county’s recycling initiatives and the successful acquisition of the Recycling Equipment Grant in the General Assembly has been instrumental in advancing these environmental efforts.
